Celebrate Monday in the Classroom

I spent my Sunday afternoon alone in my classroom. The same place I spend most of my Sunday afternoons. Why?

I believe Monday sets the tone for the entire week inside my classroom. If I’m not totally prepared on Monday, I set my entire week up for disorganization and craziness. It’s not me that I’m worried about. It’s my seventh grade students. The one’s who are organizationally challenged, the one’s who struggle to focus, the one’s who are having a hard time adjusting to being back in a classroom trying to focus on a CLT when they’d rather be doing almost anything else.

If we show up, and I mean REALLY show up, on Monday we set a huge example for our students.

Frequently I write “Happy Monday!” or “Celebrate Monday!” on the white board outside my door along with needed supplies. Students often comment on it. “What’s there to celebrate?” or “It’s TGIF, Mrs. Tripp, not TGIM.”

Why should we “celebrate” Monday?

It’s a new week. A do-over of sorts. We can let go of last week and reach out to embrace a clean slate of opportunity.

I choose to be prepared for Monday. I choose to enjoy my job regardless of the day. I choose to CELEBRATE Monday!

Do you believe that Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week? What tips do you have to make Monday the BEST day of the week?
